As I sit here and dunk oreos in milk I realize that I never posted the post I wrote to be posted today. Got that?

Things got busy after work…because it was moving day!! (again!) 🙂

So, here are my thoughts from this afternoon. I will get this blog back up and runnin just as soon as I can!

My apologies for being MIA for the last couple of days. With starting a job last week I found myself with a lot less free time to be able to spend blogging etc. And I have come to discover that weekend blogging just isn’t for me. I would rather spend my weekends hanging out with Phil, getting out of the apartment to be active, staying off the computer as much as possible, exploring Madison, and meeting new people. 🙂 That all sounds like a lot more fun, dontcha think?!
This weekend went by way too fast. During the week I love having plans to look forward to on the weekend but it seems as though weekends filled with plans go by so much faster than a weekend spent relaxing and being lazy.
Here is a little weekend recap for ya:
Home made dinner date with Phil
Movie night which turned into falling asleep earlier than expected night.
Saturday: Relaxing morning
Gym session
Phil helped his friend move which left me doing 5 loads of laundry (I don’t know why I always wait that long to do laundry), sun bathing, and reading.
Sushi dinner
Drinks with Phil
Met up with people for a going away celebration for one of Phil’s friends
Sunday: French toast breakfast, finished watching Hall Pass since we fell asleep during it Friday night
Driving range date with Phil 🙂
Went out to lunch
Lazy afternoon
Cooled off in the lake
Dinner date with Phil
Job application stuff
Finished the mini series The Pacific
Now here I am, mid day on Monday, at my extremely boring temp job, trying to keep myself entertained. I don’t know how much longer I can take it, haha. Day 5 and it hasn’t gotten any better. I am staying hopeful and keep reminding myself that at least I am getting paid for being put through extreme boredom.
On another note…today is moving day!! I am really excited about my new apartment and can’t wait to get it all set up. I have to pick up my key during my lunch break and am pretty sure it is going to be hard to convince myself to come back for the afternoon. We will see what happens. 😉
(Well, I can tell you that I’m not as big of a rebel as I make myself out to be and I quickly rushed back to work as soon as I picked up my apartment key. As of now, I am all moved in…thanks to the help of my wonderful boyfriend. 🙂 I am excited to take this week to set everything up. More details and pictures to come soon!)

Wants and needs

Another day has come to an end. And big surprise, it was a lot like yesterday. Today was spent applying for jobs and experiencing extreme boredom. Not only do I want a job for the money but I need a job to keep myself sane. Seriously.

I need a job and I need friends. If I can’t have both right now, I at least want one of them. I am having a hard time finding both. Sigh.

Ultimately a job will happen when it happens. All I can do is keep applying for jobs. Once I hit send on the online application, it is out of my hands. When it comes to friends, I just really need to find ways to put myself out there. I thought that once I got a job it would open a door and give me an opportunity to makes friends with coworkers. I am tired of waiting. I need to do something about this asap.

Anyone out there from the Madison area? Or does anyone know anyone in the area? (Yes, this is me begging)

As for tonight I plan to keep myself busy by making homemade drumsticks (the delicious ice cream cones, not actual drumsticks) that I found on Cupcakes and Cashmere (I think Phil will appreciate these :)). My nails could use some attention and The King’s Speech came in the mail today from Netflix.

Have a good evening everyone!

Moving obstacles

After sleeping for a short 5 hours we awoke to the obnoxious alarms going off on our phones. As tempting as it was to hit snooze and go back to sleep in the extremely comfortable king size bed that our hotel provided us with, we knew we had to bite the bullet and hit the road!

I was pleasantly surprised when I walked outside of the hotel and saw the Budget Truck sitting there in the parking lot still in once piece. (I had a huge fear of someone trying to break in and steal my stuff….even with a pad lock on the back of the door. Happy to say, no bad guys attempted any funny business.)

Phil and I hit the road for the second long day of driving. We had 8 hours of driving ahead of us on Sunday. We were cruising right along until we approached Chicago. Sure, I’ll gladly sit in two hours of creeping traffic after I’ve been in the car for almost two days…no problem. NOT. This was extremely frustrating. We just wanted to get to Wisconsin and be done with all of this!! When Phil told me we had only gone 5 miles in 40 minutes I couldn’t help but laugh.

Traffic is something I just don’t understand. I get it if there is construction or an accident or something but when you’re in stand still traffic and then all of a sudden out of no where are driving at a normal speed again it just boggles my mind. No comprendo! Anyone have an explanation for this?! I’d love to be informed.

Phil and I finally arrived in Madison. The plan was to unpack everything that was going into Phil’s apartment first and then head over to the storage unit with everything else. We were both so motivated to get everything moved in. I was gathering our things out of the cab of the truck as Phil went to unlock the back of the Budget Truck. All of a sudden he peaks his head around the corner and tells me that the lock won’t come off the truck. I give it a try and it won’t budge. We tried for a few more minutes and then put our thinking caps on. It went a little something like this…

  • First, call Budget Truck road side assistance
  • Budget Truck tells us to call AAA
  • AAA says they can’t help to remove pad locks and direct us to call a local locksmith
  • Local locksmith says it will be $98 to remove the lock since it is a Sunday
  • We say “no thank you” to the locksmith
  • Call back Budget Truck. They call other locksmiths. Give us a quote of $150. We say, “no thank you”
  • Call Dad and complain to him about the situation. He says go to a hardware store and buy bolt cutters
  • Phil calls Home Depot, I call WalMart
  • WalMart tells me they have bolt cutters for $20. It sounded too good to be true.

Phil and I trekked to WalMart and happily spent only $20 on bolt cutters. Phil took the pleasure of cutting the stupid pad lock off of the truck.

At this point we were both starving. All we could think about was sitting on the couch with some dinner and beers. We decided that we just needed to push through and get. it. over. with.

We moved a few items into Phil’s apartment (we are both very impressed with how little I actually moved in. I think Phil thought this apartment was going to become complete girl, but that is not the case)!

Next we went over to the storage unit and unloaded the rest of my stuff! So here it is, what my life looks like for an unknown amount of time!

So, there you have it. The long two day journey to Madison ended up being a success! I am so happy to be here and can’t wait to blog about everything from this point forward. 🙂 Enjoy your Thursday night, everyone!

Moving day!

The day finally came and went! On Saturday we all got up early, stopped for breakfast at a local bakery near my house, and hit the road! First stop: Boston. My parents accompanied me and Phil to Boston to help move me out of the apartment! When we arrived we picked up the moving truck and got right to work. I had packed up my apartment before leaving for Maine a few days earlier. My room looked a little something like this…

With the help of my roommates, the 6 of us loaded up the truck pretty quickly! Before I knew it I was saying goodbye to my parents and my friends I had lived with for the last year and a half. I hate goodbyes which is why I made them as quick as possible.

It was time to start driving! Phil was a really great copilot. 😉

Our destination for the night as Cleveland. We booked at hotel there so we had to make it that far. When we were driving through Buffalo we saw signs for Niagara Falls. When I road tripped with Phil during his move to IL for grad school we took the same route and almost made a pit stop in Niagara Falls. We decided against it during that trip but this time around we went for it. I had never been and we figured we’d be a little spontaneous.

Very pretty 🙂 Definitely added quite a bit of time on to our journey but it was worth it. Who knows when I’d ever go to Niagara Falls! Now I’ve been!

Going away dinner

After Phil’s long travel day on Thursday we had a hard time getting up Friday morning. We wanted to make the most of the one day we had in Maine. We started the day with breakfast on the porch of my parents house. We hung around and caught up with my dad and sister for a bit. Before we knew it, it was time for lunch! We headed down to the Lobster Shack. I worked at this restaurant for 7 years, throughout high school and college. If you ever find yourself in Southern Maine you definitely need to go to the Lobster Shack! 🙂 If you don’t like seafood, at least go and check out the view. It’s beautiful. (Unfortunately it was kind of a gloomy day when we went and the one pic I took of the ocean is blurry and gloomy. But you get the idea :))

That is Phil down on the rocks!

Me and dad waiting for lunch!

After lunch Phil and I headed to Freeport to do a little shopping at the outlets. It was a successful trip (especially for Phil).

We made it back to my house in time to regroup before my family showed up for dinner. We had a BBQ with family and friends on the porch. This was my going away dinner but it was also a “meet Phil dinner.” Most of my family had never met Phil before since he has been living in the Midwest for 90% of our relationship.

A few pics from the evening…

The dinner was great! It was so nice to be with my family and Phil before taking off to Wisconsin!!

Last days in Maine

My last few days on the East coast were spent in Maine with my family. I hadn’t been home since February so it was definitely nice to be there for a few days before taking off on my adventure.

I had planned on taking a bus home last Tuesday night. When my sister caught wind of this she offered to pick me up in Boston on her way home to Maine. Her plan was to surprise all of us (me and my parents) but she figured with driving by Boston on her way home from PA that she could just pick me up and save me the hassle of the bus. Thanks, Bren! 🙂

We drove into the driveway honking the horn of the car. My parents had no idea who it could be. Once they saw Brennan’s car they reacted just as we expected. The surprise was a success!

Tuesday night I relaxed at home. Wednesday night I went out with friends for the Bruins game. Thursday night was Phil’s arrival to Maine! 😀 His scheduled arrival time was 11:58 p.m. Once he got to D.C. I got a text saying that his flight was delayed and take off time was 11:06…then 11:28…and it just went downhill from there. Let’s fast forward to 2 a.m., which was last text I received from Phil saying that they were really leaving this time. It was supposed to be a 2 hour flight so I set my alarm for 3:30 so I could make it to the airport with plenty of time to greet Phil in the wee hours of the morning. At 3:20something I got a text from Phil saying he had already landed!! They got to Maine so quickly! I hopped out of bed and drove to the airport to get Phil. We were as happy as we could be to see each other considering he just traveled from 7pm to 4am.

And this was only the beginning to a long weekend of traveling. I must say, Phil was quite the trooper. 🙂
