This weekend was a great one! We had friends come and visit from Chicago. It is the same couple that Phil and I went to visit during our Chicago trip back in May. We hung out, played tennis, enjoyed a lake view dinner, and drank out of boots!
Our lovely visitors. 🙂
It was a great weekend for sure! Next time it will be our turn to drive down to Chicago!
Vacation unemployment ends tomorrow! Today was my last day of not having a job (for now) and I didn’t feel bad one bit about being lazy. I spent the day soaking up the sun and reading a new book that I got from the library (yes, the library). It was very relaxing and exactly how I wanted to spend my last day off!
Did I mention that I am SO excited to start working tomorrow?! The last 5 weeks have been so stressful and pretty boring. I feel like I have finally adjusted to my life here in Wisconsin and it feels good. Starting work tomorrow will be the icing on the cake. 🙂
I recently wrote a post giving myself a little pity party about my situation out here in Wisconsin.
Well, as they always do, things are starting to fall into place.
I recently landed a job. While it is just temporary, I am excited to have work, get into a routine, and make some money while I keep applying for a full time, permanent job.
The second thing I have been wanting and needing is friends! I have made friends with Phil’s group of friends but ever since I moved here I have wanted to establish my own group of friends. It is important to me to have my own outlets and not just get wrapped up in the life that Phil has created here over the last year.
With that being said, I needed to put in a little effort to making friends. As stupid as this sounds, I resorted to Google. I literally created a search for “how to meet people in Madison.” I came across a site called Meetups.com. After a few minutes of browsing around I created an account. Meeting new people is hard but this website was just the motivation I needed.
I joined a couple groups and started getting emails about events around Madison that people put together. For example, grabbing drinks, getting dinner, going to a movie, or concert on the square. I finally motivated myself to attend an event. All day my plan was to meet these people out at a local restaurant for dinner. The meet up time was a few hours away so I logged back into my meetups account to find that the event was actually a week away. Whoops! At least I realized before I showed up at the restaurant all alone.
It looked like another night in for me. A few hours later I got an email saying that someone left me a message on my meetups account. I quickly logged in and was happy to see that a girl who just moved to Madison left me a message. We exchanged a few emails and decided to meet up for coffee the next day. Long story short, I now have a friend here in Madison! I feel like such a dork but I’m so excited. It has definitely encouraged me get out there and meet more people asap! 😀
On another note, the weekend is finally here!! This week went by incredibly slow for me. I am so excited that Phil is back in town after being away all week. Also, I’m excited that Phil’s best friend from home (who currently lives in Chicago) is coming to visit and bringing his girlfriend with him! It should be a fun weekend of double dating and showing them around Madison. Have a great weekend everyone! 🙂
Since it has been about a week since my last post, I will just update you real quick sparing any real specific details. I don’t know how some of you bloggers do it with the whole blogging every day and some of you 3 or 4 times a day. I just don’t find the time for it. I’ve been so busy applying for jobs and looking for apartments that whenever I have free time I’ve been really living in the moment and taking everything in. Being away from my computer for a long weekend was very refreshing. But anyway, here is a nice little recap of the last week.
4th of July weekend happened. Phil’s parents came from out of town to visit us for the weekend. It was awesome having them here. They really wanted to see and do everything while they were here which was awesome because with being new to the area I was able to see and do things that I haven’t done yet!
To sum it up, there were a lot of fireworks. A lot of food, both grilling and eating out. There was a 13 mile bike ride around one of the lakes in Madison which brought us to a botanical garden. We went to the farmers market. And we saw multiple beautiful sunsets! (Phil has most of the pictures from the weekend. I left my phone and camera at home almost the whole weekend so he was in charge. I’ll work on getting some up :)).

It really was a great and beautiful weekend. Phil’s parents took off on Tuesday, as did Phil. Once they all left I knew it was time to get back to my full time job of applying for jobs. This week I tried to break it up with apartment hunting and also had a few interviews thrown into the mix. We will see what happens!
Time for me to skedaddle out of the apartment for a bit while Phil’s apartment gets shown. I think I will be a super nice girlfriend and get some grocery shopping done. 🙂
I have now been living in Wisconsin for a week and one day! So far, so good. 🙂
Phil and I had a great weekend at the lake. We had the opportunity to ride on a jet boat and a jet ski. It was so awesome to spend the weekend outside in a beautiful location. The night ended with a bonfire.
The next two pictures are from the same sunset. So beautiful.
There’s nothing like a summer bonfire to end a great day.
Taking picture of fire never works out but you can kind of see how the fire is different colors. Secret: add Christmas lights to the fire to see some crazy cool colored fire!
Phil and I have seen each other every day since I moved here. It has been awesome considering the long distance relationship we just went through.
As I may or may not have mentioned, Phil travels for work. When he travels he is gone for part of the week. It is weird being in his apartment without him here! I keep telling myself its only three sleeps and then he will be back again. Shortest time apart, ever. 🙂
And with Phil gone I get to pick what goes on the TV! Which means tonight I tuned into The Bachelorette and Home Makeover, Weight Loss Edition. I always get sucked into weight loss shows. They are just so inspiring!!
I just found a little Cake Boss marathon that is on. Definitely going to tune into a few of these before bed. 🙂 Night everyone!
After sleeping for a short 5 hours we awoke to the obnoxious alarms going off on our phones. As tempting as it was to hit snooze and go back to sleep in the extremely comfortable king size bed that our hotel provided us with, we knew we had to bite the bullet and hit the road!
I was pleasantly surprised when I walked outside of the hotel and saw the Budget Truck sitting there in the parking lot still in once piece. (I had a huge fear of someone trying to break in and steal my stuff….even with a pad lock on the back of the door. Happy to say, no bad guys attempted any funny business.)
Phil and I hit the road for the second long day of driving. We had 8 hours of driving ahead of us on Sunday. We were cruising right along until we approached Chicago. Sure, I’ll gladly sit in two hours of creeping traffic after I’ve been in the car for almost two days…no problem. NOT. This was extremely frustrating. We just wanted to get to Wisconsin and be done with all of this!! When Phil told me we had only gone 5 miles in 40 minutes I couldn’t help but laugh.
Traffic is something I just don’t understand. I get it if there is construction or an accident or something but when you’re in stand still traffic and then all of a sudden out of no where are driving at a normal speed again it just boggles my mind. No comprendo! Anyone have an explanation for this?! I’d love to be informed.
Phil and I finally arrived in Madison. The plan was to unpack everything that was going into Phil’s apartment first and then head over to the storage unit with everything else. We were both so motivated to get everything moved in. I was gathering our things out of the cab of the truck as Phil went to unlock the back of the Budget Truck. All of a sudden he peaks his head around the corner and tells me that the lock won’t come off the truck. I give it a try and it won’t budge. We tried for a few more minutes and then put our thinking caps on. It went a little something like this…
- First, call Budget Truck road side assistance
- Budget Truck tells us to call AAA
- AAA says they can’t help to remove pad locks and direct us to call a local locksmith
- Local locksmith says it will be $98 to remove the lock since it is a Sunday
- We say “no thank you” to the locksmith
- Call back Budget Truck. They call other locksmiths. Give us a quote of $150. We say, “no thank you”
- Call Dad and complain to him about the situation. He says go to a hardware store and buy bolt cutters
- Phil calls Home Depot, I call WalMart
- WalMart tells me they have bolt cutters for $20. It sounded too good to be true.
Phil and I trekked to WalMart and happily spent only $20 on bolt cutters. Phil took the pleasure of cutting the stupid pad lock off of the truck.
At this point we were both starving. All we could think about was sitting on the couch with some dinner and beers. We decided that we just needed to push through and get. it. over. with.
We moved a few items into Phil’s apartment (we are both very impressed with how little I actually moved in. I think Phil thought this apartment was going to become complete girl, but that is not the case)!
Next we went over to the storage unit and unloaded the rest of my stuff! So here it is, what my life looks like for an unknown amount of time!
So, there you have it. The long two day journey to Madison ended up being a success! I am so happy to be here and can’t wait to blog about everything from this point forward. 🙂 Enjoy your Thursday night, everyone!
