Quarter of a Century

This past weekend something happened.

I turned 25, gah!

My birthday was on Friday the 13th this year and I am lucky enough to say that nothing bad happened. In fact, a lot of good things happened.

My friend surprised me at work with these.

(From Gigi’s Cupcakes)

Phil showed up at my apartment with these.

Beautiful. I can’t stop looking at them.

Phil took me out to dinner at Sardine where we split a bottle of wine and ate delicious food.

And then we enjoyed a quiet night. Although it was weird to not be out partying with all of my friends like I did last year to bring in my 24th birthday (I miss them!), a quiet night in was exactly what I needed.

Phil and I both turned 25 in the past two weeks and I have high hopes that this will be a very good year, for the both of us. 🙂

Brining it back

Two months is a normal amount of time to go without blogging, right?

With a new year upon us I am really motivated to bring back my blog. I don’t know how often I will post but I do know that I miss having something to look back on to remind me of all the good times that I’ve had over the last few months! With that being said, here is a little recap in photos of what has been going on in my life during my two month hiatus from blogging. Enjoy!

Girls night out in Madison

Thanksgiving in Hilton Head, South Carolina

Christmas in Maine

New Years Eve in Chicago with friends from Boston 🙂

The end.

Capitol Views

This is the view from my current office:

Capitol in Madison, WI.

Can’t complain since my last view when I used to look up from my computer was a wall to my cube. I’d say this is a serious upgrade!

My new job also allows me to come home every day during lunch. Loving that little perk.

Back to work! Happy Tuesday.

The Life of a Temp

Life has been so busy lately.

I picked up a waitressing job, that I love.

Which means I have been working two jobs.

And I am transitioning from one temp job to a new temp job.

A lot of changes have been happening in my life, changes for the better.

As I have talked about in the past, I have had a hard time finding a job and I currently am working in a temp position that I haven’t liked since the beginning. It isn’t a position that engages me, at all. Most days are just downright boring and I watch the clock until it strikes 4:00.

I have put myself out there for so many different opportunities and nothing ever worked out. Until now.

I was contacted by another temp agency saying they found my resume online and had a position I might be interested in. I really didn’t want to work with another temp agency but considering my feelings about my current temp position, I couldn’t say no. I went through the interview process and came out on top! I got a new temp job, woop woop! I start tomorrow and am pretty excited!

The life of a temp is nothing glamorous. There is a lot of insecurity. You are literally the lowest man on the totem poll. But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. And for now, this is it!

Oh, and did I mention it’s SNOWING here in Madison today?!

Wasn’t expecting that. Not ready for it at all!!

Second Road Race: Complete!

Yesterday I completed my second road race! My first race was a half marathon in Boston and this race was a 15k around Madison.

My friend Carley and I signed up for the race a few weeks ago. When I woke up on Sunday morning and saw that it was 33 degrees out the last thing I wanted to do was get out of bed and run 9.3 miles. Alas, I rolled out of bed and put on my running clothes and headed out the door.

I wasn’t sure what the race was going to be like. It ended up only being maybe 150-200 people. Everything was extremely unorganized compared to when I ran my half marathon. Let me paint a picture for you…

  • no one knew where the start line was
  • the start line was at the back stop of a softball diamond and they drew the start line in the sand
  • part of the course was across the outfield of the softball field
  • the course wasn’t marked very well and almost all of the runners ran an extra 1/2 mile
  • there wasn’t any water post race

Ultimately, we finished the race and felt good about it. 9.8 miles is more than we expected to run, but we made it!

I will leave you with a few pictures from after the race, along with the goodies.

By the end of the race it was almost 50 degrees. Glad we worse short sleeves under our other clothes!

Post race food. Carbs, fruit, and as many power bars as I could grab. Along with some gel stuff that I have never tried, but will now that I have it for free!

No t-shirt to remember the race by, instead we got a headband. I suppose this will come in handy for any outdoor runs this winter!

Last but not least, post race drinks. Well deserved. Bloody Mary for Carley, mimosa for me.

Oh and you can’t forget the cheese curds. So Wisconsin of us. 😉

Wisconsin Paraphernalia

Enjoying a relaxing Saturday morning sipping on coffee out of my first piece of Wisconsin paraphernalia.

(thanks to Phil’s parents when they came to visit over the 4th of July)!

p.s. If you haven’t tried cheese curds, I highly recommend them.

MIA

As I sit here and dunk oreos in milk I realize that I never posted the post I wrote to be posted today. Got that?

Things got busy after work…because it was moving day!! (again!) 🙂

So, here are my thoughts from this afternoon. I will get this blog back up and runnin just as soon as I can!

My apologies for being MIA for the last couple of days. With starting a job last week I found myself with a lot less free time to be able to spend blogging etc. And I have come to discover that weekend blogging just isn’t for me. I would rather spend my weekends hanging out with Phil, getting out of the apartment to be active, staying off the computer as much as possible, exploring Madison, and meeting new people. 🙂 That all sounds like a lot more fun, dontcha think?!
This weekend went by way too fast. During the week I love having plans to look forward to on the weekend but it seems as though weekends filled with plans go by so much faster than a weekend spent relaxing and being lazy.
Here is a little weekend recap for ya:
Home made dinner date with Phil
Movie night which turned into falling asleep earlier than expected night.
Saturday: Relaxing morning
Gym session
Phil helped his friend move which left me doing 5 loads of laundry (I don’t know why I always wait that long to do laundry), sun bathing, and reading.
Sushi dinner
Drinks with Phil
Met up with people for a going away celebration for one of Phil’s friends
Sunday: French toast breakfast, finished watching Hall Pass since we fell asleep during it Friday night
Driving range date with Phil 🙂
Went out to lunch
Lazy afternoon
Cooled off in the lake
Dinner date with Phil
Job application stuff
Finished the mini series The Pacific
Now here I am, mid day on Monday, at my extremely boring temp job, trying to keep myself entertained. I don’t know how much longer I can take it, haha. Day 5 and it hasn’t gotten any better. I am staying hopeful and keep reminding myself that at least I am getting paid for being put through extreme boredom.
On another note…today is moving day!! I am really excited about my new apartment and can’t wait to get it all set up. I have to pick up my key during my lunch break and am pretty sure it is going to be hard to convince myself to come back for the afternoon. We will see what happens. 😉
(Well, I can tell you that I’m not as big of a rebel as I make myself out to be and I quickly rushed back to work as soon as I picked up my apartment key. As of now, I am all moved in…thanks to the help of my wonderful boyfriend. 🙂 I am excited to take this week to set everything up. More details and pictures to come soon!)
