Spaghetti and Turkey Meatballs

Yesterday was a great day. Work went by quickly, I had an awesome work out at the gym, and then got to spend the evening with some boy that I kinda like. 😉

I mentioned in my previous post something about a “surprise” dinner. I knew Phil and I had plans to hang out and I like making dinner for us (cooking for two is better than cooking for one). I texted him asking for suggestions and he responded with “surprise me.”

I did not like this response. If you know me at all, you know I’m terrible at making decisions (thanks mom!) so when Phil left this in my hands I’m sure he thought I would come back to him begging for an idea.

For once, I proved him wrong! I’ve been craving spaghetti and meatballs for a while now so I chose to make that for dinner and stuck to it! Okay, that is a lie. I almost made us BBQ chicken pizzas instead, but I am happy I stuck with an Italian dinner!

I present to you, spaghetti and turkey meatballs!

When Phil walked into my apartment he still didn’t know what I had planned on making. I told him dinner was almost done and he responded with, “what did you make? did you make spaghetti and meatballs?”…apparently he is a mind reader. Or we were just craving the same thing for dinner. 🙂

Dinner was delicious! I used angel hair pasta, garlic and herb pasta sauce (Prego, duh), and parmesan cheese. I made the meatballs from scratch. Here is how!

You will need:

  • 1 package (about 1lb) of ground turkey meat
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1/3 of a cup of Italian bread crumbs
  • olive oil
  • baking dish

Prehead the oven to 350°. Put a tablespoon or two in the baking dish (pending the size). Mix the meat, egg, and bread crumbs in a mixing bowl (use your hands to mix)! Roll the meat into balls, about 1 inch in size. Place them in your baking sheet leaving space between each one and throw in the oven for 15 minutes. Take them out and flip them over, cook for another 10 minutes. (This makes about 18 meatballs. Freeze the leftovers!)

Now that I’m drooling over last nights dinner, lunch can’t come soon enough!

Date Night

Date day turned into date night.

Phil and I decided to go out to eat at a restaurant he has been wanting to try. The place is called The Weary Traveler. When I looked at the menu before heading out to dinner, nothing really caught my eye but I figured I would suck it up and go for him (see what a nice girlfriend I am?! ;)).

The restaurant ended up being pretty unique. I love when places have cool decor.

Phil decided to play with the phone. Could you imagine still having to use a phone like that?! It would take so long to dial a number for a call!

For an app we ordered a sampler of gauc, pico, and pickled veggies. It was very delicious!

For dinner Phil ordered the “Bad Breath Burger” (which was the whole purpose of going out to eat at this restaurant) which was served with a side of greens and potatoes.

Nothing really caught my eye on the menu, so I settled for a Ruben which came with a side of greens and bacon potato salad.

Phil loved his meal. I wasn’t a big fan of mine. My stomach bad been bothering me most of the day yesterday so nothing was really appetizing. I’d love to go back and give the restaurant another try but last night it just didn’t do it for me.

After dinner we decided to go and see a movie to try and stay cool. Phil’s apartment is just too hot lately.

We saw Horrible Bosses. It was hilarious. Go see it. Date night ended with a relaxing evening of playing cut the rope and drop the chicken on our cell phones (yes, we are huge dorks).

I love date days and date nights! 😀

Date Day

Yesterday was a great day! 🙂 I was able to spend the whole thing with Phil.

We started off our day with a quick run before we headed off to his company Picnic/BBQ. When Phil asked me if I wanted to go with him to his work BBQ of course I said yes! I would go no matter what but once he told me that the menu was steak and lobster, I couldn’t say no.

Phil works for a company that has the most ridiculous campus that I have ever seen. When I say “ridiculous” just think museum plus Disney world. To give a little over view, each building has a theme (examples are the wild west, heaven, dungeons and dragons and an Asian theme building). Each building is decorated according to that theme. It is just so over the top and a very nontraditional work environment. You could spend hours there and still not see everything. Every time I go back I see something new.

With that being said, I wasn’t sure what to expect for the company BBQ. The menu was pretty over the top, offering employees and their families steak and lobster, which led me to believe be whole day would be over the top. Let’s start with the food.

Watermelon, corn, steak, lobster tail, and cornbread is what I started out with. (Sorry about the picture of the half eaten plate). Being from Maine, I was unimpressed with the lobster (yes, I’m being a snob). I was expecting a full lobster with lots of butter to dip it in. I only know lobster one way, and of course that way is the right way. 😉

There was also dessert. I couldn’t pass up a root beer float. So good!!

The picnic had big blow up bouncy houses, a small area with farm animals, wagon rides pulled by a horse, volleyball/ladderball/other yard games, rock walls, and the list goes on. Phil and I opted out of participating in any of the activities. We really just went for the food and then got on with our day.

Phil wanted to go shopping for a few things. Of course I would never say no to shopping. One thing that we bought (which I’m really excited about) is tennis rackets! There are courts nearby and we have been talking for a while about getting rackets and playing once in a while. I can’t wait to use them!

It was a great date day. 🙂
